Momos is a type of dumpling native to the Nepali part of the Himalayas and to Tibet. It is similar to the Mongolian buuz or the Chinese jiaozi.
This recipe and pictures are from my recent visit to Eastern part of India.(darjeeling in West bengal and Sikkim)
Minced Vegetables (Carrot, Cabbage, Beans)100 g
Garlic 2 cloves, minced
Ginger ¼" piece, minced
Onion (small) ½ finely chopped
Green Chilly 1 minced
Coriander Leaves 1 tbsp, chopped
Oil 1 tsp
Salt To taste
Maida 1 cup (100g)
Water 1/3 cup (approx. 50 ml)
1. Make a semi hard dough with maida and water. Keep aside.
Mix together minced vegetables, garlic, ginger, onion, green chilly, coriander leaves and oil.
2. Divide the dough and minced vegetable mixture into 16 equal portions.Roll out each portion of dough into thin rounds,
3. place a portion of vegetable filling in the center and fold the edges of the dough circles like sari pleats, pinching it once you reach the end. Use a little water to seal.
4. Steam for 10-12 minutes.
5. Serve hot with any sauce.
